HQ: Tensions between China and Japan in East China Sea

How was it that Japan, a much smaller country than China, was able to conquer and take such a strong foothold in large areas of China?

  1. This is an interesting question that could definitely lead to many different responses. Although this is a great question that could help us understand the history of tensions between China and Japan, you should try to incorporate the tensions in the East China Sea. You could possibly expand your question by asking how Japan's ability to conquer areas of China is affecting the tensions in the East China Sea. You could also alter the entire question by asking how Japan's past imperialistic relations with China are affecting the tensions in the East China Sea. Either way, you should try to incorporate the East China Sea.

  2. This question brings many options and ideas into my head. Although, do not forget that the topic involves the East China Sea. In some way, you should incorporate that topic into your question.

  3. You are on the right track but need to clarify your area of research/discussion. As Josh stated, since part of this project is a survey on current events pertaining to your topic, focus your question on the Senkaku (Diaoyu) Islands in the East China Sea. Examine the political, economic, and social significance of this disputed territory in Japan and China. Further, narrow and identify the time period under examination and focus on either Japan, China, or international diplomacy.
